” Dear diary,
Today I started pedalling away from where I was.
Today I chose not to look back as I was cycling up the first hill.
Today with the first rush of blood through my veins, and a few deep exhalations, I left behind everything that has been keeping me from moving forward…”.
… “What a start” I said to myself, thinking how tough the coming days would be till I get back in shape. Climbing that first hill to leave Horni Ujezd took the best part of me!
With every breath there was this thought going in my head: ”Knee ok, find your breath, keep on going, don’t think about your knee too much cause then you’ll hurt it… ok better think about it to protect it … now mind your breath again… oh my God, you have 2500 km ahead of you… ”
It was just going on and on and on … and on.
Haha what a conversation!
Getting out of my head for a bit, I stopped, reached for my water and looked around. The sky was clearly gathering all forces possible to create the perfect storm, and I had just started my journey with a little storm of my own inside my head. ”Wow, you chose the perfect day and time to leave. You didn’t also have the time to buy a new raincoat … ”it’s fine!” you said ”I will buy one in Brno!”
As I was sipping down my water I was tasting my own sarcasm and irony.
Still I had to make it to Policka before 17:00 and get a new saddle for Jack, and have a few adjustments to help my knee out a bit more. I had 15 km left and about an hour and a half to make it.
”Don’t even dare saying piece of cake, you can’t even go up those hills without losing your breath for a moment … you better move your ass and hurry up a bit!!!”
Accepting that this battle with my mind would be lost that day, I just allowed it to wander through endless thoughts and tried to keep a pace on pedalling a bit faster…
I made it to the little town 5 minutes before the bike shop would close and sorted my things out.
The guy was really helpful and really took his time to make sure everything was set and aligned good. I thanked him and watched him waving goodbye as I was going down the road fast , leaving Policka behind.
Felt the first drops of rain getting stronger and stronger, and my jacket’s condition already indicated I should have listened to that tiny irritating inner voice and bought that new raincoat the day before … oh well.
”So there we go… Stillness in motion” I thought, as I put my hoodie up and started speeding up to catch the last moments of the day finding a place to spend the night…
With every pedalling I was leaving behind everything that had kept me from moving forward. This entry was posted in Cycling Sutras
